Desuperheaters for EPC and OEM Projects

The SPAD Small Pipe Attemperator Desuperheater uses a fixed-nozzle spray-ring design that clamps between two steam pipe flanges. The LPD Large Pipe Desuperheater uses a probe-type variable-nozzle, fully actuated control valve and is intended for pipe sizing of 6 inches and larger. Both are designed for steam temperature conditioning applications.

The SPAD uses flange clamp mounting and is installed between two steam pipe flanges. Its fixed spray-ring design receives feed water from a separate temperature control valve. Project teams should provide the relevant steam piping, operating and control information so the unit can be evaluated for the application.

The LPD is installed by flanged insertion at 90 degrees on the steam pipe. It combines a probe-type variable nozzle with a fully actuated control valve. The design is intended for steam piping 6 inches and larger, with final selection based on the customer's application and system requirements.

The listed desuperheater products are available in ASME B16.34 pressure classes 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500, 2500 and 2700. The suitable class depends on the steam system design and project requirements. EPC and OEM teams can provide operating data for application review and product selection.

The listed SPAD, Steam Attemperator and LPD products are temperature rated up to 1200°F (650°C). Actual product selection should account for the complete operating conditions, including steam service, piping arrangement, pressure class, control requirements and the intended equipment protection objective.
