Geothermal Desuperheaters

A desuperheater reduces the temperature of superheated steam by introducing controlled water into the steam flow. This conditions steam for downstream use, improves heat-transfer capability, and helps protect piping, steam traps, rotating seals, and other equipment from excessive temperature.

A superheater raises steam temperature by adding heat, producing steam with greater superheat. A desuperheater performs the opposite conditioning function: it lowers superheated steam temperature through controlled water injection. The two devices serve different points in a steam system and are selected according to the required operating conditions.

Desuperheaters are primarily used in the supplied product information for steam conditioning rather than refrigeration. In a general thermal system, desuperheating removes excess vapor temperature before a downstream component.
